"Small even for use at home" 2010-02-15
By Janis V. (Latvia)
PROS: Good for those who need save space. It can even be stored under the group head. The small size makes it easy to empty and clean. A good knock bar - no dents on my filter baskets so far. Good looking, nice design. Not expensive.

CONS: Somewhat to small. I would say, for home use only. Fills up quickly. Parts of the pucks occasionally fall over the edge. Requires a careful and precise knock. In this respect rectangular design might be better.

 "perfect" 2009-12-26
By Phesant Farm
Solid construction, good size as fits perfectly under the group-head of my espresso maker (Gaggia Carezza), and is dishwasher safe. After a pricey plumber bill (apparently the garbage disposal doesn't like daily coffee grinds)I finally purchased this and can collect the used pucks for my indoor and outdoor plants, compost and otherwise dispose of them in happy, good ways. At first it seemed like it might be too small for a standard size portafilter. Not so. From first use, total joy.

 "does the job well" 2009-02-19
By hardwired (NC)
It's just what we needed. After a major bill to a plumber who told us that coffee grounds collect like sand and clog pipes, we decided that $30 for a knock box was money well invested.

As many have said, the box is too small for commercial use but it's perfect for home and it even fits under the pour spout on the espresso machine for storage. The rubber feet and squat design hold it steady on the counter. The bar is wide, sturdy and rubber coated so it's not likely to dent your filter unit. And the low cut front edge insures that you don't accidentally hit the handle or your finger on the edge.

I think $30 is too high of a mark-up, but nothing cheaper looked nearly as functional. If ours was stolen by a coffe loving burglar (I don't expect it will break) I would buy another immediately.

"Very impressed with the quality" 2008-11-06
By candy o
I have to admit that I was very surprised at how small this little guy was, but the quality definitely makes up for that. It's great for at least a days worth of puck (depending on how many shots you brew of coarse). TO get an idea of how small it is, it was designed to fit under the portafilter for storage on home espresso machines.

I would definitely buy this box again. It's a perfect addition to my coffee bar.

By K. Alogogiannis (Neuchatel, Switzerland)
Performs as advertised. Water temperature and grind sensitive. Descent crema. For European purchasers beware of the recharge cartriges. Not all brands work due to length differences and cap ends. I found the ISI brand name (made in Austria) works well. A bit of cotton wool at the end of the screw part of the handle compensates well for the few milimeters difference. If not the gaz will eventually leak out and after a couple of hours there will be no pressure.

 "cumbersome/waste of time" 2010-02-06
By Karin B. Eynon (Detroit, MI USA)
Gave to husband for a Christmas gift because he loves espresso and travels a lot.

Item is very big and heavy and cumbersome to travel with or use anywhere. He said

you get approx. one shot of gas per use and by the time the water gets heated and

into the cup it's no longer hot - and very hot is desired for a cup of espresso.

Needless to say it was a rather expensive flop and is no longer being used.

"Great espresso - couple of improvement suggestions" 2010-01-22
By errdisable
Once I realized that the small o-ring fell out (wasted 3 cartridges trying to figure out what was wrong) I was able to pull some very nice shots from this machine. It is a very clever design and from what I can tell the cheapest, easiest way to make true espresso.

I soak the unit in boiling water while I am grinding and dosing and I have no temperature issues (that I can taste in the shot anyway). It would be nice to make the o-ring a little more secure and it would also be nice to have some kind of way to tell how much pressure is left in a cartridge. Those are the only drawbacks I have experienced with the mypressi.

 "Very impressed by mypressi" 2010-01-04

I have only made 5 shots so far, but they all come out very nice. I use Lavazza "il perfetto espresso" from [...], which (in quantity) costs about 1/3 of what I used to pay for the illy at WholeFoods.

In reply to Francesco Fato: I think there is no point in preheating the lower hemisphere because the plastic has a low heat capacity and never holds the brew. But you may as well go naked and remove it as suggested by "Reflex". Today I used the pressurized cup without the lower hemisphere and had it squirt directly into the pre-heated milk. That created a great froth for my latte.

I wonder when people will stop using their big and noisy machines in favor of the mypressi.

The cartridges cost between $0.50 and $1 a piece depending on quantity etc.

"Favorite Christmas Gift this year! :)" 2009-12-30
By P. R. Sklenar (Southern New England, USA)
I received my Twist as a Christmas gift.

While the instructions indicate that I can expect four Double-shots or eight Single-shots per N2O charger, I've used two of them so far and got 5 (five) Doubles out of both using the standard double-shot basket, 16g of beans ground at "10" on a Rancillo Rocky grinder (for reference, I grind for drip at "21" and vac pot at "30").

After the first two attempts (too fine a grind and/or too firm a tamp leading to 60+ and 45 second pulls respectively), I seem to be getting between 20 & 25 second pulls ending with *tons* of crema & a very smooth taste (using Sweet Maria's "Espresso Monkey Blend", roasted the morning of 12/26). No bitterness at all.

Very easy clean up, doesn't tie up a bunch of counter space. I'm one happy espresso drinker. :)

 "it's plastic not metal" 2009-06-28
By RK (North Carolina, USA)
I was under the impression this was a metal knockbox, but it isn't. It looks like it is, and the description doesn't tell you what it's made of, so I concluded wrongly that it was metal. That said, it serves its purpose.

This knockbox is robust and ultra stylish. I bought it as a gift and the recipient loved it. However, 4 latte's later and the box was full so we were a little disappointed with the size - about 10cm in diameter. Check the dimensions if this is adequate for your needs.

"Seller Named "Espresso Parts" charged $7.10 shipping for this $6.04 item." 2010-01-10
By C. Haug (N.C.)
The Bialetti 3-cup rubber ring and filter plate arrived in good condition, however I was disappointed that the seller (seller's name is: "Espresso Parts") charged $7.10 to ship this $6.04 item. I requested standard shipping, and I think $7.10 is too much for such a small item. The order was placed 1/1/2010 and shipped 1/4/2010. I'm not sure I will use the Espresso Parts seller again (FYI - they ship out of Olympia, WA).

"original parts - note the number " 2007-08-10
By Italian Singer
These are original Bialetti parts and work perfectly. I just couldn't tell from the photo how many gaskets were included, so I bought two packages. It turns out that each package contains one metal screeen and 3 gaskets. Since the gasket is the only thing that has ever worn out, and has usually lasted me a year or more of daily use before disintegrating (or liquifying in one case), I now have a six year supply of gaskets and 2 extra screens. I hope I still enjoy capuccino as much in six years as I do now!

"7,000 Pots of Coffee Later, Still the Best" 2009-12-16
By G. Little (Los Angeles, CA)
12 years ago I went to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time. It lasts two weeks...way too long when your "job" is basically to attend every party thrown. Somewhere in the middle of it I met a gorgeous German journalist. We ended up in London afterwards for a few more sodden days. When she came to visit me in L.A., she brought this Alessi 6-cup Stainless Steel Espresso maker as a gift. The relationship didn't last but ever since then, from L.A. to New York and back to L.A.; on open fires while camping; on snowboarding trips and aboard sailboats, I have made two pots of coffee a day and can't imagine life without it. Somewhere around 4 or 5 thousand pots and 7 years later, the lower half developed hairline cracks that allowed the water to leak out. Alessi replaced it for free.

The coffee is great but if you are looking for thick, strong espresso with the foam on top, this isn't it. It's more like strong coffee, which is perfect because the "6 cups" of espresso fills up one large mug and that's what I drink. It tastes delicious but is very much its own thing. Guests love it.

I like well-made machines and this is a coffee machine. The handle snaps down with an incredibly satisfying feel. The metal is thick and lustrous. Here's something great: because the whole pot heats up on the stove, the coffee inside will stay hot for an hour. Make sure you use a pot holder to grab the handle, though.

Here's one thing I can guarantee: from time to time you will forget the pot cooking on the stove until the smell of scorched coffee grounds reminds you. You will rush back to find the lower half blue with heat and bone dry, with the coffee burnt and boiling in the top half. At this point, don't do anything. Leave the whole thing on the stove to cool and take it apart only then. Pouring out the coffee and running cold water on it will cause the metal to weaken and leave you with the cracks mentioned above. Metal doesn't mind heat and would rather cool gradually.

Over time, the lower half will lose its brand new look but that's true of all of us I suppose. It you don't use abrasives on the top half it will remain new-looking forever. After a few years you may want to replace the rubber ring that seals the two halves.

Buy this espresso maker. You will not be sorry. Or buy it for a friend whom you want to remember you every time he makes coffee...for years.

 "works perfectly" 2008-08-21
By WTL (California)
I don't even drink coffee, but I got a similar-looking one for my wife a couple of years ago - looks the same except it doesn't have the black stripes around it. It's high-priced and I don't know why - but it's stainless steel, not aluminum, takes a high polish, nice looking. But the main thing is, my wife loves it - she has espresso twice a day, and for awhile she kept trying to use her Saeco machine, but it always needed expensive repairs and was kind of a hassle to use. For the last few months she's been using just this little pot, twice daily, it's fast and simple and works perfectly. There's no big production number required to get espresso into her system (that's good for me, too!). She can do without the crema, and she finds it makes as good or better espresso than she can buy anywhere. I could have gotten her a cheaper one that works just as well, probably, but this was a special gift so I didn't mind the extra cost. She loved that it's in MoMA. It's that kind of thing that makes a gift out of the ordinary.

Nice little knock-box; at 4"x4", it's the perfect size for me: the only espresso drinker in the family. Works great, with a rubber grip-ring holding it to the counter. The price here was the best I could find anywhere, so it's also a good 'bang-for-the-buck'(ha,ha!). The color is a rather bright shade of red, so this one won't be hard to find on a crowded counter-top! I've only owned this 'Grindenstein' for a week, so if I notice any durability issues, I'll definitely post an update...

 "Good and bad..." 2009-02-03
By Devon Mccarroll (Snoqualmie, WA, USA)
I ordered this because I really wanted a knockbox, but didn't need a huge one because I only make two lattes in the morning for my husband and me.

First, the good. It's adorable! It's also incredibly sturdy. At first I was reluctant to really bang my portafilter on it too hard, because I thought it might tear the rubber coating that covers the bar. It didn't, and I've become more comfortable with it because it's very, very well made.

Now for the not so good. It's only a couple of inches high in the front (maybe 2 1/2). You have to make sure your portafilter is really centered over the bar, or you'll end up splashing grounds all over the counter. So it's definitely made for the casual user who doesn't have alot of space, although I'm sure the bigger ones might splash too since the bar is near the top on most boxes.

Would I recommend this? For durability and looks, definitely! But be prepared for a little bit of mess if you're not careful.
