 "Need a replacement" 2009-12-10
By Joe Krotick (Pa.)
They don't make things like they used to. New percolators come with junk for glass tops. You have to keep replacements around. This one will work. But you might as well buy a couple, because surely you'll need to replace the replacement. My mother has my Grandmother and Great Grandmothers percolators. The tops on those are old and you could tell its of great quality. No room for pride and quality in todays industry. Quick, cheep, and easy. Thats the way of the present and future.

"More fragile than it looks!" 2009-11-11
By Danene Ruggiero
Although the price is right, these tops break quite easily. You cannot pull the top of the coffee pot off using this top as I have broken 4 of them already by doing so. So, if you can remember NOT to pull the top off with this glass piece, you'll be fine!

This really enhanced the percolator I bought it for. The only negative is the cost of shipping was more than the cost of the item.

 "Prospective Buyers Beware" 2009-10-31
By G. S. Hall (Highland, Md USA)
This top is marketed as fitting Farberware electric percolators. They show it conjoined in the picture as a suggested option leaving the impression that it fits, is functional and possibly improves appearance. The Farberware electric percolator that I recently bought through Amazon has a top lid with no opening - completely solid. Thus, if the glass top being marketed here fit at all, which it does not, all it could ever be is decorative. This is a very annoying product misrepresentation; the blame should be borne equally by the vendor and Amazon for not adequately researching the compatibility of items they market together.

 "works perfectly" 2009-10-28
By frank gyure
the original plastic percolator top broke long ago,and the plastic replacement was cracked and leaking. I wanted to replace it expecting another plastic top ( which I knew was going to crack eventually). So I was surprised when I saw that a GLASS top was available. I was a little worried if it would fit, work well etc. But it works PERFECTLY. My pot is the Farberware.I highly recommend this.!!!!!

 "Good coffee" 2009-08-22
By Suzanne K. Goldstein
I like my coffee stronger than many people, and metal/electric pots just are not up to the task. I am a firm believer in glass coffee-pots, and the Modelco makes a great cup of coffee. There is no oily residue - you can watch the coffee brew (not boil) - the odor is incredibly inviting.

My only concern is the plastic bubble in the middle of the lid. I have 7 of these pots (glass chips/breaks, so I always have replacements ready), and the lid-bubbles have all cracked and leaked. I have been unsuccessful in finding replacements. I suggest that the manufacturer return to the old-fashioned glass bubble. Other than that, I love my Modelco(s) and recommend this product to all coffee drinkers.

"Good to the last drop" 2009-02-12
By G. Parker
I wanted to go back to a percolator but the electric ones were pricey. So I did a search and found the modelco 8 cup. The price was right and all the reviews I read were promising. So I got it. I am so glad I did. It makes a great cup of coffee. The drawbacks? Takes a while for the water to get hot enough to percolate so I suggest putting the coffee on first then go about doing your morning routine. When you are done so is the coffee. Also be sure to have course ground coffee to put in the basket, and it is glass so you have to take care not to bang it up too much. Be sure to use the little metal trivet for electric stoves.

"first time making coffee this way" 2009-12-24
By John W. Chan
This is my first time with this vacuum coffee maker, I'm so use to making with the auto driper that the coffee to water mix was off and the tase was not to my liking. But I guess I have to experament a bit to find out.

Watching the action of it was kind of cool.

 "Yama 8 cup vacuum brewer=coffee perfection!" 2009-12-11
By B. Austin (Mid-Illinois, USA)
I thought I had drank great coffee and bad coffee and everything in between. I even thought I had made great coffee at home and I know I've made bad coffee at home, as well. However, I always brewed the coffee through (what I thought was) decent drip machines. In fact, I always assumed drip coffee makers were "just fine". Boy, was I wrong! After using a vacuum syphon pot I've discovered that drip machines are nothing short of pure crap. Vacuum pots are not hard to use and don't take much more time than cheap drip pot to brew. What it does is produce the most delicious coffee I've ever made in my home.

I'm never going back to a drip machine......if I have a choice, the workplace, restaurants, & etc. don't really count since I have no control over those places.

 "Love it!" 2009-12-09
By Coffee Lover (Medford, Oregon)
This coffee siphon works great, the coffee tastes great, and it's just really, really cool. But don't put it in the microwave, even though it says you can, because the handle really doesn't seem to withstand it -the plastic gets very hot and smells bad. Otherwise, we love it. The really great part is if the power goes out, we can still make coffee on the wood-burning stove using the included metal trivet!

"My favourite long coffee brewer" 2009-11-21
By P. Williams (Canada)
This has to be my favorite (non-espresso) method of producing good coffee. Vacuum brewing (often called siphon brewing) was very popular before convenience assumed more importance than the quality of coffee produced.

While lacking quite the grace and style (and "coffee-table theatre") of the Cona version, the Yama brewer carries a much smaller price tag. Though it is made of glass, the Yama feels quite sturdy and should be quite serviceable - given suitable care. If it breaks, the cost of replacement is reasonable.

The Cona has a glass rod/filter which is very effective, zero cost, and low maintenance. I do not like the idea of brewing through re-used, laundered cotton filters as provided with the Yama, so I use an old Cory glass rod filter (check out eBay) which works perfectly with my 40 oz unit. A simple wire grid is provided and works well with my electric smooth-top. The whole process soon becomes very quick and easy with practice.

Maybe I'll buy a small butane burner to achieve the Cona's "coffee-table theatre".

"The perfect cup of coffee" 2009-11-04
By Michael Rousselle (Saratoga Springs, NY)
I remember when I was a child my grandmother had a stainless steel sunbeam version of this coffee maker which produced coffee that tasted like liquid coffee ice cream. This glass version produces the most delicious coffee I have tasted in a very long time. Throw out your drip coffee maker with the fancy dials and clock and buy this one if you are really interested in good coffee. The used coffee grounds are almost dry so very easy to dispose.
