"Better than most, but could be better" 2009-07-16
By C. Young (West Jordan, UT United States)
I had an aluminum moka pot before, but was concerned with the fact that it was aluminum, so I went on a search to find a stainless steel moka pot and ended up with this one.

Overall, I like this pot since it is bigger than my last pot and made of stainless steel. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved upon.

First, the inside of the pot isn't stainless steel, but is coated with some mystery coating that is definitely not stainless. I'm not sure what the reason behind this coating is, but I'd rather it wasn't there. Also, the spout could be improved upon. It's positioning tends to cause minor spills when you are pouring.

While this pot isn't the perfect moka pot, it is better than any of the others I've tried, so I would recommend it.

This is a very practical yet pretty coffee/espresso maker. Made of Aluminum, this moka pot has a strong plastic handle & lid. Water is poured in the boiler (bottom) and the funnel-shaped metal filter is inserted. Finely-ground coffee is added to the filter. The upper part is tightly screwed on the base. By placing the pot on a heat source, the water is brought to boiling point creating steam in the boiler. A gasket ensures a tightly closed unit and allows for pressure to safely build up in the lower section, where a safety valve provides a necessary release in case this pressure should get too high (with clean filters, that should not happen). The steam eventually reaches a high enough pressure to gradually force the surrounding boiling water up the funnel through the coffee powder and into the upper chamber, where the coffee is collected. When the lower chamber is almost empty, steam bubbles mix with the upstreaming water, producing a characteristic gurgling noise. As with percolators, the pot should not be left on the stove so long that the coffee boils. Approximate Dimesions: 8" High, 7" L, 4" W.
