PROS: The biggest benefit of this pot over the enamelware coffee pot percolators is the filter basket assembly. It is stainless steel on this model, but only flimsy thin aluminum on the others. This pot is very sturdy, high quality, stainless, strong handle, lid has a lip that if installed properly should not fall out. Also good for heating water for tea, hot chocolate, and dishes. I prefer percolators over drip coffeemakers. I have never had to replace a stove top percolator because it was broken, but have owned countless expensive drip coffeemakers. Breakable carafes, clock to reset, takes up counter-space, buttons to fuss with, filters to replace. My simple pot lasts years longer, (one pot I own is decades old), and the clean-up and maintenance is simpler. Now you can buy paper filters for percolators, but I think that is a waste of money. Like a drip, there is a learning curve. This type of pot does not have a water marker for example. But there is a simple instruction sheet in the box. But for taste, I get a full bodied dark coffee, and I do not need to buy the high dollar coffee I used to buy to get the same robust flavor. My opinion anyway.
CONS: The glass dome, some folks can break them. They sell replacements in 2 sizes at Amazon.com for less than a pack of paper filters. The good news is that Coleman will mail you a replacement dome for free if you break it, email them through their web site seems to be the best way to get this done. Some folks don't like having a glass done, and so maybe they should try the 9 cup blue enamelware model that does not use a dome. But for me, I use the dome to gauge the coffee readiness by the color of the perking coffee.
TIPS: Wet the inside of the basket before you put grounds in, to help prevent grounds from going through the holes. Use a medium ground blend. If you plan to use it on a camp fire, soap the outside of the pot and let dry for a minute before placing on the fire, to prevent soot stains. If you do it every time, it will stay looking like new. Don't cram the coffee grounds down into the basket either. Some folks like to heat the water good and hot, and then put the basket in, I don't as that is a good way to get burned. This model comes in a nice box, I recommend you keep it if you camp with the pot, it makes a perfect storage box to avoid scratching the pot.
RECOMMENDATION: Good pot, I recommend. Coleman's also competitor GSI makes an 8 cup percolator in red or blue, but the lid is attached which is a nice feature. I am partial to Coleman though.

We are extremely happy with this coffee pot...after going through many, many name brand and expensive electric percolators we were looking for a good stove top coffee percolator and so far this one has been perfect !

I am very pleased and happy that I was able to find the Coleman 12 Cup Stainless Steel Coffee Percolator. Before ordering it from Amazon.Com I had gone to all the major department stores and hardware stores looking for a percolator that I could make coffee from on top of the Stove. I was not very successful. I was told that the companies who made them did not make them anymore. I even check Baltimore's largest flea market hoping to find a 9 or 12 cup Aluminum Coffee Pot. No such luck!!. It wasn't until my girlfriend suggested I try online to fine what I was looking for. And behold, I did and I am loving it. The coffee taste is excellent, Maxwell House Coffee never tasted so good. How lucky can I be?

I bought this percolator to replace an aluminum WWII era percolator, that still works excellent, because I wanted to move away from cooking with aluminum. The actual weight of the pot and lid is nice, however, the interior parts are quite flimsy. I even had to bend a piece back into shape before I could use the pot for the first time. The stainless basket is nice but the lid to the basket doesn't fit tight in the basket and you end up with a lot of grinds in the coffee. On my old aluminum percolator the basket lid actually snaps tight into the basket. This is a typical Corporate American profit squeezing product. I don't expect it to last very long at all and will get used to flossing the grinds out of my teeth.
